More than a thousand dogs and their owners competed for prizes during the Cool Cluster Dog Show at the Lake County Fairgrounds in Grayslake Saturday.

The dog show, held annually over five days Wednesday through Sunday, was presented by the Kenosha Kennel Club, the Park Show Kennel Club and the Chain O’ Lakes Kennel Club. There were 1,054 dogs entered Saturday and Sunday.

“Anytime you get a thousand dogs that’s a pretty good sized dog show,” said Cluster chairman Ken Murray. “Some of the biggest winning dogs in the country are here.”

While many of the competitors were from across the country, Jane Brown of nearby Wauconda was showing her Scottish deerhound “Jack,” a massive breed that would rival a tall man in height if the dog were standing on his hind legs.

“I’ve been coming to this show for years because it’s close,” Brown said. “It’s one of my favorite shows, it’s convenient and all my friends are here.”
