MORA, Minnesota — A 30-year-old woman running a dog training and boarding facility out of her central Minnesota home was charged with more than a dozen counts of animal torture.
Moriah Krondak is the owner of Done Right Dogs in Mora, Minnesota, and was charged earlier this week with 16 counts after officials found 18 dogs in her care — nine dead and nine alive.
The investigation began after owners say they brought their dog to Done Right Dogs while they went on vacation, and when they came back they were “met with excuses” on why they couldn’t pick their dog up. The owners say they told Krondak they were picking up their dog that day, and that’s when they were told their dog died. They took the dog to the University of Minnesota for a necropsy, and veterinarians there called police when they saw signs of malnourishment.
According to the criminal complaint, law enforcement went to Done Right Dogs, but Krondak said she had no idea how the dog died. She showed deputies around and the dogs they saw that day appeared to be in good condition.
The complaint goes on to say deputies planned to stop by again unannounced, but before they could, they received a welfare check request for a dog in Krondak’s care. When deputies went back to Krondak’s home, they found multiple dogs in crates and one dog tied to a sliding door with a leash that wasn’t long enough to let it lie down. None of the dogs had access to food or water, court documents say.
When deputies went to the garage, they found multiple deceased dogs, according to the complaint. Nine dead and nine living dogs were removed from the home by Animal Humane Society investigators, the complaint states.
Her first court appearance is next week.
