PORTLAND, Ore. (WKRC) – A mother lost her arm and ear after being mauled by a pack of dogs.
According to KGW-8, Mytoka Petry is in critical condition after she was attacked by eight dogs near a homeless encampment on July 15. Authorities told KGW-8’s reporters that two others attempted to help Petry and were both injured, although they did not go to the hospital.
Petry was taken to the hospital and was in the ICU with life-threatening injuries, per the outlet.
Multnomah County Animal Services took eight dogs into custody and they are being held pending an investigation, according to KGW-8, which added that the results of the investigation will determine what next steps are taken with the animals.
“She would always be there for everyone else, and it’s time for us to be there for her,” Kristine Rebber told the outlet’s reporters.
When speaking with KGW-8, Petry’s friends described the attack as being “like a horror movie.”
“It’s so unbelievable that this would happen to somebody, let alone somebody I love so much,” friend Julana Torres told the outlet.
Petry has undergone five surgeries in seven days and could potentially lose an eye, per the station, which added that her daughters have been at her side throughout the process.
“Her eldest daughter is only 23 and she’s having to make very hard decisions for her mom at this time,” Rebber told KGW8. “We are all so happy [Mytoka] is alive. Because of the extent of her injuries, she’s not out of the woods yet.”
A GoFundMe campaign was launched by Petry’s family and close friends. It has a goal of reaching $80,000 and has raised over $58,000 thanks to help from others.
