Hello, neighbors. I very nearly borrowed this week’s title from a slender volume by Polish author Czeslaw Milosz, “Road-Side Dog.” The book is a collection of thoughts covering a wide, life-spanning range of topics. No matter the subject, he seeks truth for himself (and potentially his readers) above all else. So it goes with a poet and writer engaged with the art for as long as Milosz was — 87 years old, nearly 25 books in English to his name — when he offered the world his latest look at Life. Yet, so it goes with most, if not all, artists.
As a regular contributor to our local newspaper, I understand Milosz’s effort and fire for capturing elements of the world, of experience through the written word. I try, just as he did: writing is my attempt at showing things bigger than me, “I know about you.” I enjoy the challenge of finding the words to make a thought full and real. Conveying nuggets — I think of it that way.
