CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo. (KFVS) – The Department of Conservation is hosting free, dog-friendly hikes this fall in southeast Missouri.
It kicks off on November 8 with an online presentation on how to keep your dogs happy and healthy in the outdoors. The topics will include trail etiquette, area regulations, packing for your pup and first aid in case of an emergency.

According to MDC, “BYOD: Bring Your Own Dog Hike” will be on Nov. 9 from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the Cape Girardeau Conservation Nature Center.

They ask that you always keep your dog on a leash, bring water and encourage good behavior with other dogs.
This hike covers moderately hilly terrain on graveled trails, so they recommend comfortable tennis shoes or hiking shoes with adequate traction and cleanup bags.
On Nov. 9, they’ll host “Hike with a Shelter Dog” at the nature center.
Southeast Missouri Pets will bring some canine friends and you’ll have the chance to walk one of them.
According to MDC staff, this hike covers moderately hilly terrain on graveled trails. They recommend bringing a bottle of water and comfortable shoes with good traction. Dog leashes and cleanup bags will be provided.
An adoption event will take place during and after the hike.
