Millions Are Falling for This Dog and His Neighbor, Who Have Standing Playdates and a Code Phrase Just for Them (Exclusive)

When Adrienne Foster and her husband first welcomed their chocolate Labrador Retriever, Goose, in the early summer of 2022, they’d often bring him out on the lawn, where their neighbor Drew was usually outside, meticulously tending to his front yard.

“Anytime we took Goose out, Drew would come over to see him,” Foster, 39, tells PEOPLE exclusively. “They bonded very quickly. It truly was a ‘love at first pet.’ ”

Since then, Drew and Goose’s friendship has only deepened. The two hang out one to three times a week, depending on everyone’s schedules.

They usually start by playing fetch in Drew’s backyard, and on weekends, they’ll often head to a local creek. On weekdays, their adventures are more low-key: a walk through the neighborhood or a visit to the dog park, followed by downtime back at Drew’s house — sometimes even watching TV together. Drew typically spends a couple of hours with Goose, occasionally up to four or five.

“It always starts off as a text message to see if Goose is free, and then we send him over when it’s time,” Foster, who lives in Toronto, says. “It brings us all so much joy.”

“There’s no rules — just to love on Goose and have fun,” she adds. “There’s absolutely no pressure on Drew to take him out, it’s just a genuine love of doing so and it’s something they both look forward to.”

Recently, Foster took to TikTok to share more about Goose and Drew’s sweet relationship. With the world feeling heavy, she thought videos of Goose might bring others a little joy.

She never expected them to go viral — but they did. Her videos have now amassed millions of views and thousands of comments.

“I must see the other POV when goose gets to his destination,” one person commented.

” ‘Release the goose’ is the cutest thing ever,” another user replied.

Someone else added, “Is goose available 😂 like he’s got a day of appointments.”

“Funnily enough, some people were expecting to see a real goose!” she says. “Others love the phrase [we use], ‘Release the Goose,’ and many have shared stories about their own pets and kindhearted neighbors. I’ve been reading every single comment because it means so much to me that this story is resonating with so many people.”

“Drew and his family have always been so kind: stopping to chat, bringing treats for our daughter, always offering to help,” she adds. “Drew is quite the handyman, so we often lean on him with questions. He even installed our Christmas lights. I think we knew there was something special about Drew and his whole family even before we had Goose. I refer to him as the neighborhood dog whisperer because they all stop to see him when out for walks.”
