Millard teacher — and crossing guard — goes above and beyond, saves student from dogs

Teachers are pillars in our community as they help future generations succeed, but their work can sometimes be taken for granted. We’re taking a look at a Millard teacher whose dedication to students goes beyond the classroom. He also works as a crossing guard. Andrew Feller’s typical day begins at 4 a.m. A science teacher at Andersen Middle School, Feller was asked to go above and beyond and help kids walk to school. “Eric offered this opportunity to me to come out here and be the, he called it, ‘the mayor of Adams Street,’ I liked that,” said Feller.Feller says he takes his role as “Mayor of Adams Street” seriously.”You set that tone and you’re able to start off on the right foot and kind of give parents that mindset that like, ‘OK, we’re OK. We’re safe out here. There’s somebody out here every day that’s going to make sure my kid’s safe,'” said Feller. Keeping kids safe sometimes goes beyond Feller’s job description as a crossing guard. He proved that when, during his interview with KETV, he kept two large dogs from attacking a student. Feller says when he sees a kid who needs a hand, he will help them, no matter what. “That’s the kind of stuff I like to do is just to help kids out in any way, shape or form, whether it’s helping them chase dogs off or helping them with their homework or helping them cross the street,” said Feller. If you happen to drive by the school bright and early, Feller will probably say hello to you, too, even though you’re not a student. “I just get out here and put a smile on and wave to all these cars just so I can kind of, you know, brighten their day a little bit because you never know what anyone’s going through,” said Feller.NAVIGATE: Home | Weather | Local News | National | Sports | Newscasts on demand |

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
