Cheyenne, Wyo. – The 90th security forces squadron celebrated a grand opening…With a ribbon cutting ceremony.
F.E. Warren is celebrating a ribbon cutting as it opened its newest Military Working Dog or MWD’s kennel facility and the retirement of one of they own on Thursday.
This grand event included the opening of a new, state-of-the-art kennel that was built in partnership with in house and outside contractors.
The new facility has enhanced care and training features.
“This facility is going to solve all those issues and then some, this is going to improve the quality of life for all of our dogs, and all of our handlers and just make us more ready to execute our mission here at F.E. Warren,” says TSgt. Andrew Arvizo, Kennel Master- 90th Security Forces Squadron.
Which include new flooring that provides heating and increased sanitation and safety for both dogs and trainers.
“It has caused several injuries in dogs. It doesn’t have all the equipment needed to make the mission happen,” says Arvizo.
Larger kennels, neighboring and in house veterinary clinics, it also has an obstacle training course park outside, thanks to the Cheyenne Animal Shelter.
During this event they also held a retirement ceremony as well for Rio an 8 year military working narcotic detection dog.
The soon to be 8 dog K-9 team will leave their old facility that they have outgrown in use and size.
“Just having them have like sleep and live, like the kennels they were in were really really small, and these right here are regulation so then now they can actually you know be themselves when they are not working,” says Senior Airman Tyson Curry, Military Working Dog Handler.
This new kennel has been a long time coming… Since its construction got stalled during covid… And cost 8 point 1 million and has taken 14 years to complete.
“When the dogs are more mission ready we can get them out and then do different types of detection so they have more time in training rather than more time in the veterinarian room,” says Curry.
This K9 facility will officially be up and running on June 9th
