DETROIT — A Detroit man was sentenced to up to 15 years in prison and his wife was placed on probation Friday in connection with a fatal dog attack that took place early last year, according to Fox 2 Detroit.
Roy Goodman was sentenced to between 30 months and 15 years in prison after he was convicted on one count of dangerous animal causing death. His wife, Trevina Goodman was sentenced to three years probation, community service and ordered not to possess any animals.
Harold Phillips, 35, of Detroit was walking home around 9:20 p.m. on Jan. 29, 2024 when three dogs escaped through an unsecured gate at a home in the 9400 block of Longacre. The dogs attacked the father of six, hospitalizing him before he died four days later.
Roy Goodman admitted to police that he’d let the dogs into the yard earlier in the day and was aware that the latch on the fence was broken. The husband and wife were charged in the matter a few weeks later.
The three dogs involved in the attack were eventually euthanized.
