MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Authorities are investigating after a dog was found abandoned in a shopping cart.
The dog was found Monday night along Southwest 10th Street in Miami-Dade County by people who live in the area.
“I heard a dog barking,” said Nancy Bolt. “He was just growling at everybody.”
Added neighbor Maritza Zorrilla: “It looked like an English Bulldog, extremely scared.”
Bolt is also a dog mom and used water and treats to calm the dog down.
When calls to animal control and non-emergency lines went nowhere, Bolt said she called 911.
“And the lady’s like, ‘What’s your emergency?’ And I said, it’s not about a person,” said Bolt, who also called her friend Paul Lopez, who is a professional dog trainer.
“He was a little bit more approachable, but still couldn’t get near him,” said Lopez. “He was very defensive.”
Eventually, a police officer arrived.
“I don’t know who he talked to, but an hour later, the big truck comes from animal services,” said Bolt.
The dog was taken away by authorities.
The only reason those neighbors said they didn’t take the dog in was because they just didn’t have room, as they’re all pet parents, themselves.
They’re now waiting to follow-up with animal control to see what his status is, with hope that an owner comes forward. They’re also contacting bulldog rescues to see if he can find a home there.
