MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Memphis Animal Services says a dog died in the shelter’s care Monday, and a preliminary assessment indicates it was heat-related.
The dog, whose name was Lulu, was found unresponsive in the facility’s play yard. The exact cause of death has not been determined, and MAS says it is continuing to investigate.
MAS says they have adjusted their outdoor play areas to include more shade. Additionally, they will continue to ensure their staff knows how to take care of the well-being of all animals.
“We are committed to the safety of all animals in our care and will share more information as it becomes available,” MAS said in a Facebook post.
