(Press Release from the City of Halfway)
Thank you everyone for your input regarding roaming dogs in town. We realize this has been an ongoing issue for some time.
Here are the actions the City has taken in the past months:
– Informed Baker County Sheriff
– Filed a report with ODFW
– Delivered official complaints from the past months by citizens to the Baker County Deputy assigned to the case.
At this time, the city has learned of a recent change in the reporting requirements for situations involving aggressive dogs in Baker County. It is a change that will hopefully make reporting such incidents easier and more effective in problem animals being addressed. Sheriff Deputy Henshaw, Sheriff Travis Ash and the new Under Sheriff will be at the City Council meeting on February 13th to discuss these changes. As with all council meetings, this meeting is open to the public and we highly encourage attendance.
Please see below the official process for filing a complaint about dogs to The City of Halfway:
– Gather as much evidence as you can — photos, a description of the dog(s), and/or a written account of what happened are all considered evidence when filing a complaint
– Take it into City Hall OR contact Mayor Nora Aspy who will come and collect the information from you
– You will need to fill out and sign an official complaint form describing the incident and any evidence. This form is available at City Hall, or can be delivered to you by Mayor Aspy.
Once an official complaint form is completed and signed, the City will get it delivered to the judge for further assessment. Please be sure to file complaints. It is imperative to the judicial process in order to have problematic animals appropriately addressed. Without official filed complaints, not much can be done.
Because legal proceedings are currently happening with a specific group of dogs, the City will refrain from providing more information publicly on these specific dogs until the proceedings are resolved.
Thank you for your trust in us and your cooperation.
