In The Know with Gino…
The McKamey Animal Shelter is reaching out to the community for support as it faces a growing demand for dog treats to keep its over 200 canine residents happy and entertained. In a recent social media post, the shelter highlighted their need for a variety of dog treats, including Bully sticks, beef chews, Nylabones, and other favorites.
“With over 200 pups in our care right now, we’re going through dog treats faster than you can say ‘sit!’” the post read. “If each dog got just one treat a day for a week, we’d be handing out more than 2,000 treats—yep, in just ONE WEEK!”
The shelter’s staff noted that while the dogs are generally not too picky, they have a special fondness for meaty treats. Popular items on their wishlist include Beggin’ Strips, Pup-Peronis, and Nudges.
In addition to treats, the shelter is also calling for chew toys to keep the dogs occupied during their stay. “Bully sticks, beef chews, and Nylabones are always a hit,” the post added, emphasizing the joy such items bring to the shelter pets.
Community members looking to help can drop off donations at McKamey Animal Shelter located at 4500 N. Access Road. Items can be placed in one of the brown donation bins found on the left-hand side of the main entrances, making it a simple process for anyone wanting to lend a paw.
As the need for treats and toys continues to grow, the McKamey Animal Shelter is counting on the kindness of the Chattanooga community to help ensure all its furry residents receive the love and care they deserve.
