Masontown man arrested after hitting dog with shovel, saying ‘she can suffer’

MASONTOWN, W.Va (WDTV) – A Masontown man was arrested Friday after hitting a small dog in the face with a shovel.

James Johnston, 58, hit the small dog with a shovel behind the couch because the dog used the bathroom in the house, according to the Preston County Sheriff’s Office.

A person reported receiving a picture from Johnston that showed the dog with a wound across its snout, blood all over its face and blood on its bedding, court documents say. The text also said that the dog used the bathroom in the house and that he “gave her a lesson and she does need stitches across the bridge of her nose and I’m not taking her nowhere she can suffer for all I give a s—.”

When deputies arrived on scene, Johnston told them he was going to take the dog to the vet, but the incident occurred about four hours earlier and he had “just started watching a movie on TV,” court documents say.

Johnston is charged with cruelty to animals and is currently in the Tygart Valley Regional Jail with bond set at $5,000.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
