Martha Stewart’s Magical Menagerie: Meet Her Many Furry Friends, from Frenchies to Pet Peacocks

Horses, donkeys, and dogs – oh my!

How to Watch

Watch the series premiere of Yes, Chef! on Monday, April 28 at 10/9c on NBC.

When Martha Stewart isn’t proving her culinary prowess in the kitchen — most recently as a co-host on NBC’s spirited cooking competition Yes, Chef!the domestic goddess can often be found on her sprawling farm in upstate New York, surrounded by her mini-menagerie of furry friends.

The long-time animal lover has an eclectic mix of dogs, cats, horses, donkeys, a pony, chickens, geese, and peafowl all enjoying an idyllic life on the picturesque 150-acre property in Katonah, New York, known as Cantitoe Corners.

“They bring such joy to me and everyone here at the farm,” Stewart wrote last year on her blog of the animals.

Her adorable pets include everything from a champion French Bulldog affectionately called “Luna Moona” to curious new baby chicks and a stunningly vibrant muster of Peacocks.

Luna Moona, Empress Qin, and Their Fellow Canine Friends

Being a taste tester in Martha’s kitchen is an enviable post for most. It’s a daily reality for her five lucky pups: Chow Chows Empress Qin and Emperor Han, and French Bulldogs Crème Brûlée, Bête Noire, and Luna Moona.

“All the dogs love being in the kitchen with me, especially when I’m cooking and baking — they’re always ready for whatever ‘falls their way,’” Martha remarked on the blog last year.

Her four-legged sidekicks also love joining her on treks on the farm to visit the other animals or stopping at the property’s fenced-in yard and enclosed pool. And, as she shared on Instagram earlier this year, when she heads to her early morning pilates class, the dogs are sure to get their exercise too during a “early morning constitutional walk” through the nearby park with her driver before heading home for a “healthy breakfast of homemade dog food mixed with a small amount of Canin dry kibble.”

In the adorable carousel of images she shared with the post, a black French Bulldog can be seen cozying up in the seat of the car with one of her fuzzy-maned Chow Chows.

Her two Chow Chows are half-siblings and granddogs of her late, award-winning champion Chow Chow Genghis Khan.

Her youngest dog, tiny French Bulldog Luna Moona, is a champion, too, having beaten out 52 other beautiful Frenchies in a dog show earlier this year.

Martha shared a picture on Instagram of the proud pup posing with her ribbon.

“She’s on her way!!!” she captioned the snap. “It’s called a Sweepstakes win thank you judges!!!!”

A Stable of Donkeys and Horses

Martha is a devoted grandma to her two grandchildren, Jude and Truman — but the teens may have some competition for affection from their adorable namesakes on the farm.

Truman Junior and Jude Junior, or TJ and JJ as they’re often called, are a pair of donkeys Martha named in honor of her beloved grandchildren. The duo joined her stable in 2019.

“These two are very bonded and are never far apart,” Martha wrote on her website last year, along with photos of the duo and their donkey friends Rufus, Clive, and Billie.

All five donkeys live in a stable, but enjoy spending most of their time during the day out in the grassy paddock just down the road from her home.

“Like many animals, donkeys are happiest when outside where they can roam, roll, and play,” she wrote. “These donkeys also bray quite a bit – one can hear them from across the fields. In the afternoon, the five are brought back into the safe and warm stable, where they are groomed and fed.”

Martha shared an image of Billie, a female known as a jenny, peeking over some fencing on Instagram last month.

The playful donkeys share their stable home with four Friesian horses, a Fell pony, and several cats.

One of the Friesans, a glossy black horse named Bond, had a health scare after finding an unexpected surprise on the farm. As Martha shared on social media, Bond was diagnosed with botulism after eating a dead snake in his hay.

Although it was a “scary illness,” luckily Bond recovered, even posing in a photo with Martha by his side in January.

Martha Stewart’s Friendly Rescued Felines

No farm would be complete without barn cats. Martha just welcomed a playful set of sisters last year. Cinco and Mayo — aptly named for their May 5 arrival on the farm — stay in the cozy stable alongside the horses and donkeys.

“My kittens, Cinco and Mayo, are getting bigger every day,” Martha shared in a snapshot on Instagram in August. “They’re still too young and too small to venture out in the rest of my stable, but they’re adjusting nicely to life at Cantitoe Corners.”

Cinco, a calico, is known as the more social kitty.

“Cinco is very friendly and curious,” Martha wrote on her blog while introducing the two. “She is the first to greet anyone who visits.”

While her sister, Mayo, a tabby, still loves to join in on the fun only after her sister has “checked it out,” Martha noted.

They aren’t the only new feline additions. Martha shared that she adopted a beautiful gray Persian cat, Magnolia, from a local Bedford Hills, New York, rescue in January.

“Meet Magnolia, a beautiful four year old silver shaded Persian cat and the newest member of my family,” she wrote in an introduction on Instagram, alongside a photo of the copper-eyed beauty.

After a trip to the Super Bowl in New Orleans in February, Martha added another cat to the mix, another rescued Persian named Dahlia, whom she picked up in The Big Easy, according to MarthaStewart.com.

“Magnolia and dahlia have become good friends and they travel the house room to room together!” Martha noted on Instagram, along with a few photos of the cute cats. “They are curious, very friendly and lovable! Both adoptees want to be petted, held and cuddled!!”

Feathered Friends on the Farm

As if Martha weren’t busy enough with the dogs, cats, and horses in her care, she’s also got a flock of feathered friends — including geese, chickens, peafowl, and a pair of rare peach golden pheasants — on the farm.

Just outside the stable, Martha has a heated coop where her golden pheasants and any birds new to the farm safely reside.

As she explained on her blog, she rescued a pair of male golden pheasants, one a striking red and gold and the other a vibrant yellow, last year from the Animal Nation Farm Sanctuary, then later added a pair of females and a “rare” pair of peach golden pheasants to the brood.

As Martha noted in November, she also has 16 peafowl — including three peachicks, female peahens, and male peacocks — residing at Cantitoe Corners in a specialized pen near the stable that keeps them safe from dangerous predators like coyotes.

“I try to visit them at least once a day to check on their general health and well-being,” she said in a post on the blog dedicated to the vibrant creatures. “They are all very content here at the farm.”

One particularly striking Peacock, with a gorgeous blue and green tail, made an appearance on her Instagram last month.

“It’s that time of year when my peacocks display their stunning and iridescent tail feathers and make loud calls to the females around them,” she captioned the shot. “It’s the beginning of breeding season for these majestic birds.”

The farm is also home to a gaggle of African geese — like this gander working hard last month to attract a mate — but perhaps some of the cutest residents are the fuzzy, new chicks born on the farm after an incubation period of just 21 days.

Martha took to Instagram to share a few images of the adorable babies, including a precious shot of a curious white Silkie chick and a pensive-looking yellow and brown addition.

“This is one of 29 chicks that hatched within the last week at my farm,” Martha captioned the tiny brown chick. “All my peeps are healthy, alert, and very curious.”

To keep up with Martha’s life away from the farm, watch her in action on Yes, Chef! as she mentors a promising group of 12 chefs competing to reign supreme.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
