Eligible dogs are six months and older, and the shelter provides a goodie bag for fosters and their pups.
MESA, Ariz. — If you are still looking for holiday plans or unable to see loved ones this Thanksgiving, Maricopa County Animal Care and Control “Turkey Tasters” may be for you.
The annual event allows people to foster dogs for the holiday week from Nov. 23 to Dec. 1 or longer, if you fall in love with your new furry friend or wish to continue to foster until your pup finds their “fur-ever” home.
Potential fosters fill out an application and then head to either the west or east shelter locations to meet “Turkey Tasters” looking for a home for the holiday. You can pick up your canine companion from Nov. 23 to Nov. 27.
“This is a great opportunity for people who can’t commit to a long-term pet but still want to help homeless animals,” said Communications Supervisor Kim Powell. “Whether you’re expecting a house full of guests or spending the holiday alone, we have several dogs who would love the company.”
Eligible dogs are six months or older and will also go home with a goodie bag full of treats and food for the long weekend.
“MCACC is so excited to be able to hold the Turkey Tasters Foster Event for a third year,” said Alternative Placement Supervisor Dana Klose. “Fostering is a great way to not only give our dogs a break from shelter life, but also network them in a different and exciting way. Who knows, maybe some of these fosters will decide to leave a permanent seat at their table for their ‘Turkey Taster!’”
Walk-ins are welcome from 12 to 5 p.m. or you can go online to schedule an appointment. For more information, head to the Maricopa County Animal Care and Control website.
