Man tries to relax at home after “stressful” day, dog has other plans

Dog owners know nothing beats coming home after a stressful day and being greeted by their excited, happy tail wags. But sometimes, as a recent TikTok video revealed, you can’t get much breathing room.

In a clip posted to the TikTok account @hazelandwillowspaniels earlier this week, a dog owner returned home from a “stressful day at work.” Hoping to relax and unwind, he sat on the couch. But living with cocker spaniels he should’ve known getting some downtime by himself wasn’t going to happen.

Cocker spaniels, like many dog breeds, are happiest with their human companion. They don’t care if they’re cuddling up on the couch or playing outside, these small dogs are up for anything. A Daily Paws article stated cocker spaniels have a “sweet temperament.” They are very affectionate and cuddly.

The dog, Willow, immediately hopped up on the couch with him. Ignoring his personal space, she spread out over him and stuck her face next to his, covering his mouth and nose.

While this might not have been his idea of relaxation after work, he didn’t mind the cuddles. Plus, he’s used to it at this point.

“She does that as often as possible she loves face-to-face contact,” the owner told Newsweek. “She will just lay there for hours and fall asleep if you let her.”

As of Wednesday, the TikTok video has amassed 17,500 views and 273 likes. Viewers immediately came to Willow’s defense, calling it the “perfect love.” Who wouldn’t want that reaction after coming home?

“That is relaxing, she’s easing your stress,” commented one user, while another pointed out: “You’re relaxing right there.”

How Dogs Help Reduce Stress

Pets can instantly turn a bad day around for owners, but their impact goes beyond that. Studies have shown dogs can help reduce stress, anxiety and depression, according to the American Heart Association.

The article stated that having dogs can encourage exercise as simply playing with them can increase a person’s “feel-good brain chemicals,” such as oxytocin and dopamine. By being more active, a person’s mood, sleep and mental health will improve. Pets offer companionship and support. Their bond helps owners feel not alone.

Pets in the workplace also have a significant on employees. The article reported that pets can help increase productivity, reduce stress and improve employee satisfaction. Even dogs joining a virtual meeting can help garner trust and cohesion among teams.
