MCHENRY COUNTY, IL — A 55-year-old Huntley man has been sentenced in an animal cruelty case.
Bruce Walla, of the 10600 block of Wheatlands Way in Huntley, was sentenced to one year of conditional discharge and ordered to pay $4,000 in fines late last month after entering a guilty plea to cruelty to animals, according to court documents provided to Patch.
Walla and a codefendant in the case, Concepcion Rodriguez, were arrested in 2024 following a July search of a Wheatlands Way home. Authorities launched an investigation into the duo after 54 Maltese mixed-breed dogs were abandoned at the Hammertime Unleashed Dog Park in Belvidere.
In addition to the abandoned dogs, court documents show poor environmental conditions at the home caused a turtle to suffer curling of its shell and for its shell to turn white instead of the yellow it was supposed to be. In addition, three cats and a dog sustained a decline to their health because of poor environmental conditions.
Rodriguez faces 19 counts of animal cruelty and 19 counts of animal owner duties. She is next expected in court on March 19.
