SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (FOX Carolina) – The 7th Circuit Solicitor’s Office announced that a man was recently sentenced for an attempted armed robbery that left a dog dead in 2022.
Officials said 27-year-old Raekwon Richardson was tried this week and found guilty of 1st-degree burglary, attempted armed robbery and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.
According to officials, the situation began on October 25, 2022, when four men tried to break into a residence along Georgia Street in Clifton. Officials stated that Richardson eventually kicked in the door and was attacked by the victim’s dog, Tank.
Officials explained that the dog bit Richardson but was shot by the suspects before they ran away from the house. Officials confirmed that the dog later passed away from his injuries.
In the morning, a neighbor living one street over from the victim found Richardson bleeding on her front porch and called law enforcement. Richardson, who was suffering from a dog bite and a gunshot wound to his right leg, refused to name the men he was with during the incident. Officials confirmed that the other suspects involved were never identified.
Following the trial, Richardson was sentenced to life in prison without parole due to his criminal history, which includes convictions for 3rd-degree assault and battery, 2nd-degree burglary, unlawful carrying of a handgun, 1st-degree domestic violence and attempted armed robbery.
