Man performs “surgery” on dog’s toy, internet can’t cope with her reaction

A dog eagerly waiting to learn her toy’s fate as she watched it get sewn back together has delighted the internet, leaving many TikTok users in stitches.

The hilarious video was shared on TikTok by the dog’s owner Jessica (@jessicaprigo), as she supported the pup through the difficult time. The video shows the dog, named Lily, watching intently as her owner stitches one of her stuffed toys back together.

The caption layered over the clip reads: “Just supporting my dog as she waits to see if her favorite toy will make it through the surgery.”

Poor Lily, who is German shepherd and retriever mix, looked incredibly nervous and needed Jessica to hold her paw throughout.

TikTok users can’t get enough of Lily’s adorable reaction and the video has gone viral with over 3.6 million views and more than 896,200 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.

Newsweek has contacted @jessicaprigo via TikTok for comment.

Writing in the caption alongside the video, the owner explains that her husband collects all of Lily’s destroyed toys during the week and “puts them in the hospital.” Then, over the weekend, he finally takes them out of the hospital wing and sews them all back up ready for another week of chaos.

Regardless of how often this happens, it never gets easier for the sweet dog, however. Jessica joked on TikTok that she sits there “every time like please dad, save him.”

While it’s natural for a dog to explore their environment through sniffing, they may also achieve this by chewing objects too. Unfortunately, there can be plenty of collateral damage with this, as they may chew their owner’s belongings or household items along the way.

VCA Animal Hospitals suggests that chewing may be a sign of teething, scavenging for food, or satisfying a natural urge to gnaw. In other instances, it can be a sign of anxiety (especially among dogs with separation anxiety), or because it gains them attention.

Dogs should be encouraged to chew on their own toys by rewarding them when they do this, and discouraged from chewing on anything else. VCA Animal Hospital recommends supervision, and preventing access to any items that they might chew (apart from their toys).

The TikTok Reaction

Since the video was shared on March 19, it has captivated the attention of millions online, who were desperate to find out if Lily’s favorite toy survived surgery. This has led to more than 480 comments on the TikTok post so far, as many others lauded the pup for her unwavering concern.

One comment on the video reads: “patient’s families aren’t supposed to watch from the gallery.”

Another TikTok user wrote: “Take her to the cafeteria to get a coffee, she should get a little time away to collect herself before the Dr gives her the news.”

Another person joked: “She needs an emotional support dog.”

While one commenter added: “It’s gonna be fixed and then destroyed again 5 minutes later.”
