An Uber driver who takes his dog everywhere has shared the tear-jerking interaction he had with a rider who got into his car mere hours after putting his dog down.
Kevin Ferman of Broomfield, Colorado, has been a driver for Uber on and off for almost a decade. But in recent years, he’s made a name for himself as the driver with the adorable four-legged passenger in the front seat, as he doesn’t go anywhere without Bowie the Labrador.
Not only does Bowie keep Ferman company, but he also brings joy to his customers. Ferman told Newsweek that Bowie often provides “a sense of comfort to riders,” regardless of what they’re going through.
Indeed, that was captured perfectly in November 2024, when Ferman and Bowie met a rider named Matthew, who sadly had to say goodbye to his own dog that same day.
“I felt for him, I know after losing my childhood pups how heartbreaking it is,” Ferman said. “I instantly thought it was meant to be and that he was supposed to get us as his Uber that day. Sometimes I feel like there are special forces matching up riders with Bowie.”

Ferman drove Matthew on a 10-minute journey, and during that time he talked about losing his four-legged friend and the power of meeting Bowie all in the same day. Matthew said he thought it was “a godsend” to meet Bowie and he praised the unconditional love that dogs provide.
This heartwarming interaction was shared on Ferman’s social media (@the_uber_dog on TikTok and Instagram) and it went viral. Since it was posted in January, the video has amassed over 5.6 million views on TikTok and 8.7 million views on Instagram.
It was certainly one of Ferman’s most memorable car rides, and he was so grateful that Bowie could offer support on such a difficult day. In fact, he’s done around a dozen journeys with people who recently lost their pet, and Bowie has proven what an amazing “support system” he can be.
“He’s really good at matching people’s energy, and I think he knows when someone needs a friend or even a shoulder to cry on,” Ferman said.
“Most of my rides used to be uneventful and forgettable. Sometimes we’d chat, but most of the time it felt like work. But with Bowie in the car, the vast majority of my riders light up the second they see him and are excited to ask about him. These days, tons of passengers have seen my videos across social media, so they come in feeling like they won the lottery,” he continued.
Ferman regularly shares footage from his Uber rides on social media and YouTube (@bowietheuberdog) as he says each journey is made so much more meaningful with Bowie by his side.
The online response since sharing the video of Matthew’s Uber ride has been incredibly heartfelt and loving. The viral clip reached millions of people, including those who also lost their pet on that very day too.
“Bowie didn’t just help Matthew that day; he comforted thousands, maybe even millions around the world, and all he had to do was exist and be the sweet boy he is,” Ferman told Newsweek.
The viral video certainly brought many people to tears and it’s generated thousands of comments on social media so far.
One TikTok user wrote: “Bowie was meant to be in that car for the man.”
Another person wrote: “His dog knows his owner missed him, that’s why he managed to secure this uber with Bowie.”
While another person replied: “Whenever there is someone in need, Bowie is there.”
