Man charged with manslaughter in deadly October dog attack

A man faces manslaughter and other charges after a deadly dog attack in Albany last year.

Omar Daniels, 44, was indicted Friday afternoon in Albany County Court.

According to the Albany Police Department, on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at around 5:55 p.m., officers responded to the rear yard of 594 Central Avenue for reports of a male being attacked by several dogs. Upon arrival, they observed the dogs fatally attacking the man. In an attempt to stop the attack, one of the responding officers discharged his duty weapon, striking at least one dog.

James Provost, 60, of Schenectady, was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Daniels was indicted in Albany County Court for one count of Manslaughter 2nd, one count of Criminally Negligent Homicide, and three counts of Aggravated Cruelty to Animals.
