A 20-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with animal cruelty, resulting in the seizure of two dogs in his care, after he was spotted mistreating the animals in the Central Park area, according to police.
Police officers received a report of the man “repeatedly and violently” pulled on one of the dog’s leashes as he walked them in the area around 2 p.m. Friday.
They identified a suspect and linked him to a nearby address. He was seen exiting an apartment complex just before 4 p.m., and “though quite unco-operative,” was arrested without incident, police said in a Saturday news release.
The two dogs were located inside a suite and were turned over to the city’s Animal Services. The dogs were not injured, police said.
The man was charged with animal cruelty and failing to comply with conditions of a release order. He was released from custody on an undertaking, with conditions including a prohibition on possessing animals.
