Man charged with animal cruelty after 32 dogs and iguana seized from Tate County, Mississippi, home

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — An Arkabutla man is charged after the Tate County Sheriff’s Office seized dozens of animals as part of a cruelty investigation over the weekend.

The sheriff’s office said investigators executed a search warrant at a home in the 2000 block of Prichard Rd. in Arkabutla on Saturday, July 13, 2024. They said 32 dogs and a large iguana were seized and taken to the Senatobia-Tate County Animal Shelter.

The animals are currently being treated and evaluated by veterinarians. The animal shelter said the dogs have taken up every available space and they are currently not accepting animals for the next few days.

The sheriff’s office said Tommy Dean Douglas is charged with aggravated animal cruelty, simple assault on a law enforcement officer, and disorderly conduct – disobeying a lawful order. As of Monday, July 15, he was being held in the Tate County Jail on $50,000 bond.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
