Man attacked by his dog in Roslyn Heights park shoots, kills canine, cops say

An altercation between a man and his dog Thursday afternoon in a Roslyn Heights park turned deadly after the canine attacked its owner who then fatally shot the animal, Nassau County Police said.

The dog, which was off its leash at 2:35 p.m. at Christopher Morley Park, “turned on his owner and began to viciously attack him,” police said in a news release.

“Fearing for his life,” police said, the 43-year-old man fired a single shot that killed the dog.

The man was transported to a hospital for treatment of lacerations to his left arm and left leg, police said.

His name and hometown were not immediately released. The type of gun he used was also not immediately released late Thursday but police said he had a “licensed pistol permit.”

Police said and investigation is ongoing.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
