SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – A man was arrested on Sunday and accused of stabbing two dogs to death.
According to the Sherman Police Department, officers were called out to the 2100 block of North Shannon Drive, after someone said they overheard someone else make a comment about stabbing his ex-girlfriend’s dog.
When officers got there, they spoke with several people, and one man, Michael Ruiz, 23, told officers he was moving property out of the home after having problems with his ex-girlfriend.
Ruiz told officers his ex-girlfriend’s dogs were inside, and he said they were not injured.
When officers went to the front door with Ruiz, they saw fresh blood in the home.
The officers went inside, and they found two dogs, one inside the home and one outside. Both of them had fresh, major lacerations on their sides.
Sherman Animal Services was called, and both dogs were taken to an emergency veterinary hospital.
Both of the dogs died from their injuries.
When officers detained Ruiz, they saw fresh blood on his body and clothes, but he had no signs of visible injury.
Sherman police said officers found more evidence to support Ruiz allegedly stabbing the two dogs, and he was arrested on two felony counts of animal cruelty for allegedly killing the dogs.
