NEWARK, Ohio (WSYX) — One man faces a 20-count indictment for trading videos and images of child pornography and for having sex with a dog in Licking County. Another man faces misdemeanor charges for allowing the man to abuse his dog. That’s according to county officials and court documents.
Sheriff’s investigators say it all started in June with a tip from the Internet Crimes Against Children task force, pointing them to someone trading videos of children being abused. That led them to the home of Trent Willard, 40, in a rural part of the county.
On Christmas Eve, investigators arrested Willard, who admitted to them he had a problem with child pornography. They also arrested John Moran, 69, whose dog was the one being abused. Licking County Humane Society agents confiscated the dog, three others, and more than 60 head of sheep from Moran’s home.
“It’s shocking when you hear the details of it,” said Lori Carlson, executive director of the humane society.
“It is monstrous,” Carlson said. “People who hurt kids and animals or seniors or anybody who has a disadvantage, it’s just very discouraging.”
Carlson’s agency has dealt with three shocking cases in the last month. Among them is the death of a Pataskala woman, who was mauled by pigs and found dead on her front porch on Christmas day. The other case involved a 22-year-old woman accused of kicking a dog to death at a pet care facility.
Carlson said she called in a crisis counselor to talk with her employees.
“People oftentimes don’t think about humane agents and humane societies being first responders, but they are,” she said.
“There are humane societies and humane agents all over the state doing this work, and it is tough, tough work, and they see terrible things,” she said.
