Man accused of abandoning his two dogs at his old house

GENESEE COUNTY, Mich. (WJRT) – A Genesee County man is facing a felony animal abuse charge after police say he abandoned his two dogs in a cage at a previous home.

Court records show that 33-year-old Jeremy Justin Neph is charged with one count of killing and torturing an animal.

On Jan. 19, deputies with the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 11000 block of Langdon Drive in Vienna Township for a report of two dogs abandoned by the previous homeowner.

Police observed the two dogs locked in cages inside the garage, covered in feces and urine. They add that the dogs were without food and water and were really weak.

One of the dogs was more ill than the other, unable to lift its head and could only move its eyes. Deputies add that the dog had open sores on its legs.

The Genesee County Animal Control was dispatched to the scene. Both dogs were taken to the vet, but the weaker one was euthanized.

Neph was later arrested by police.

According to the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, Neph said that his job at FedEx required him to work long hours, and he was unable to care for the dogs.

The dog that survived has been renamed Baxter and is available for adoption at the Genesee County Animal Control.

Neph was given a $10,000 cash surety bond. He is currently out on bond.

He is scheduled to be back in court on Feb. 12  for a preliminary exam.

The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
