There were three dog attacks against Postal Service letter carriers in Utica last year. One dog attack is too many because any attack can cause significant injuries and have life-altering consequences. I am seeking assistance from dog owners to make sure carriers are safe from dog attacks while delivering mail and packages.
Dogs, even nonaggressive ones, are generally protective of their turf and owners. Securing dogs before the carrier approaches the property will minimize any potentially dangerous interactions.
