MADACC has hundreds of unwanted animals. They’re desperate for more volunteers

With hundreds of unwanted animals currently at the shelter, the Milwaukee Area Domestic Animal Control Commission is in a crisis situation and asking the community to step up and volunteer at its facility.

“What we need is for more people to step away from their keyboards/phones and volunteer in our facility,” MADACC posted on social media. Volunteer options include walking dogs, cleaning kennels, filling enrichment toys, socializing cats, doing laundry, helping with post-surgery care, administrative tasks and facilitating adoptions, according to the post.

As of Oct. 15, more than 400 animals are currently housed at MADACC. Animal shelters across the country, including MADACC, are facing a crisis as more unwanted animals are filling up facilities. Most animals are large dogs and sick or elderly animals that owners can’t afford to take care of anymore, according to its website.

MADACC has taken in over 10,000 animals so far through September this year, with only 18% being reclaimed by owners. “This is not going to end unless we all work together and for those who cannot keep their pets, they need to be honest so they are not sitting on stray hold for no reason,” wrote MADACC in a statement.

How to volunteer at MADACC:

Volunteers must be 18 years of age or older and can complete the online application form online here. Once your application has been accepted into MADACC’s database, you will be invited to sign up for an orientation. Volunteers will complete laundry, dishes and general cleaning to become familiar with shelter operations.

Those interested in temporarily fostering an animal until it is ready for adoption, can find an application here. You can also donate to MADACC here.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
