Macedonia Volunteer Firefighters rescue 5 dogs from house fire Sunday

A Forrest County volunteer fire company were able to rescue five dogs from a fire Sunday that took the lives of two additional dogs and injured three residents.

Shortly after 4 AM Sunday, firefighters from the Macedonia Volunteer Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire in the 300 block of Pop Runnels Road.

According to a release from Macedonia VFD, first arriving units reported heavy smoke coming from the front of the structure and significant fire conditions at the rear. Firefighters quickly launched an offensive attack through the side door under the carport and began suppressing the flames within the home. However, the fire rapidly spread into the attic and throughout the home, forcing firefighters to remove drywall and insulation to access the fire in the attic.

Soon after, the roof became unstable, leading to partial structural collapses. Firefighters were forced to evacuate the structure and transition to a defensive approach. Once the fire was brought under control, firefighters were able to re-enter the home and begin salvage and overhaul operations.

Firefighters remained on the scene for nearly five hours in total. All occupants had evacuated the home before firefighters arrived. However, three residents reported injuries: two experienced breathing issues from smoke inhalation and were treated on-site by EMS personnel with AAA Ambulance Service but refused transport, while the third was taken to a local area hospital for burns to the upper portion of their body and smoke inhalation.

Additionally, seven dogs were in the home when the fire started. Firefighters were able to locate and successfully rescue five, but unfortunately, two dogs were found deceased.

Additional agencies responding to the incident included the North Forrest Volunteer Fire Department, Sunrise Volunteer Fire Department, Forrest County Sheriff’s Office, and Dixie Electric Power Association.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
