Local street dog advocacy group gets state veterinary award

TALENT, Ore. — Rogue Valley Street Dogs (RVSD), a Talent-based group providing medical attention, food and supplies to local dogs in need, received an award this weekend from the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association (OVMA).

RVSD got the Veterinary Service Award from OVMA on Saturday, Mar. 8. The award “recognizes an individual, organization or company that has promoted the veterinary profession and/or the well-being of animals.”

“For many of the people we work with…[pets] are their closest connection,” president Laurie Cuddy told NewsWatch 12 in January. “They are their one stable relationship, and they just mean everything to them.”

This winter nonprofit groups are reaching out to community members in need of food, medical care or clothing. One group is providing those services to the pets of unhoused and low-income people.

RVSD started in 2013 as the Street Dog Project, with spay and neuter services being their number one priority for local animals. The organization spayed and neutered more than 500 animals in 2024.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
