GIBSON COUNTY, Tenn. — A woman is thankful for the efforts of a first responder who stepped in to help save her life.
What began as a normal Friday for Gibson County Firefighter Jason Wall soon turned in to him saving a mother from a dog attack.
“About 3 o’clock, I was headed to Trenton to fill up our rescue truck for the end of the day. I was going down the highway, something caught my eye to the right, and I stopped and backed up and looked. I noticed a female being attacked by what looked like to be a Pitbull,” said Wall.
Wall says that he normally keeps his head on a swivel while driving. Swiftly, while getting out of the truck, he radioed to his team what he was seeing.
“What I see is she’s getting dragged across the the driveway and part of her yard. And I get out and start off hitting the dog to get it off of her and she’s screaming, of course, she’s got kids,” said Wall.
Wall shared he first saw two kids when assessing the scene, however, he would later discover the mother had 3 small children in total.
“The front door of the house was open and she’s got a new born in there,” said Wall.
After getting the dog off of the mom, the mother shared with Wall that her newborn was inside the house, then, the dog soon followed the two inside the home.
“We kind of fell but the dog came in over us and it jumped up on the love seat and I seen the car seat on the love seat. I thought it was going after that baby, because she said she had a newborn. So I jumped up and dove on the dog and we kind of went on the edge of the love seat and kind of got in the hallway and start off shoving it and kicking it down the hall way. Trying to get it in a bed room trying to lock it in the bed room,” said Wall.
After locking the dog in the room, Wall acted fast and informed other crew members of the situation.
“She was bleeding severely on her right arm. About that time my partner arrived and got the medical and started first aid on her,” said Wall.
The mother told wall that the dog was the neighbors and has been aggressive recently. I asked wall what was his first thought when saving this mom.
“When you come into a situation like that it’s really your adrenaline going. So, its really no thinking it’s just to help, help, gotta get that dog off her, gotta get that dog off her. And get the kids in the house and get the dog away from them,” said Wall.
Because of the attack we didn’t reach out to speak to the mother, but we wish her a speedy recovery and hope we can talk with her in t he near future.
