OCONTO, Wis. (WBAY) – A rural community dog walker hit more than a million followers on social media.
This one-woman, small-business owner is well aware of her influence and using her platform to also make a difference.
Any given day, Hope Mehlberg of Oconto is surrounded by a couple dozen dogs — and she wouldn’t have it any other way!
She started walking dogs part-time in 2020. Three years later, she quit her 9 to 5 job and bought and renovated a bus, making the K9 Convoy her full-time job.
Every day she picks up her four-legged clients and brings them to a 10-acre piece of land she’s converted into a playground for dogs.
She started to share her business on TikTok. It took off — surpassing more than a million followers last month.
She says her pet parents are the best, they’re so supportive, and their support helped carry Hope through a tough time.
When her own dog passed, her pet parents collected funds to cover adoption fees for two dogs in her dog’s honor.
Then last year she helped raise nearly $8,000 for her local Humane Society.
Mehlberg says for her, it’s important to give back, and her a big following is a gift she loves to share,
“Because there are a lot of dogs out in shelters that need the love and support. Our local shelter, it is a small hometown shelter. They do need funds,” Mehlberg said, adding she would like her followers to donate to their local shelters.
Mehlberg plans to just continuing doing what she’s doing, and it clearly works. Folks love it, and she continues to make a difference.
For anyone thinking about starting a business or posting to social media, her advice is, just do it. If you have a passion or an idea, follow it. She adds, if you do the hard work, success will follow you.
