LOUISVILLE, Ky. — Two people were injured after being attacked by dogs on Monday night in the Algonquin neighborhood, according to the Louisville Metro Police Department (LMPD).
They say around 7 p.m., officers responded to a call to assist emergency services at a home in the 1700 block of West Lee Street.
When they got there, officers were told a man was in the backyard and an 8-year-old girl was inside the home.
Both were bitten several times by at least two dogs, according to LMPD. The breeds of the dogs are unknown.
The dogs were still present when officers arrived. According to LMPD, the responding officer, fearing for the victim’s safety, shot and killed the dog.
The second dog ran a short distance away but was later found nearby. The dog was also killed by an LMPD officer.
Emergency services were able to get both victims safely away from the scene.
The man was taken to the hospital with serious and critical injuries.
The 8-year-old girl was also taken to the hospital. LMPD says she was alert and conscious at the time. Her injuries are described as serious, but non-life-threatening.
The owner of the dogs has been located.
Louisville Metro Animal Services (LMAS) Control Officers will continue to investigate.
