PHOENIX (KPHO/Gray News) – A leopard print-painted dog and its puppies were left in the scorching heat but have now found a new foster family.
Rainbow Brite, a 5-year-old pit bull mix, and her nine puppies were found tethered to a short leash in the heat with no access to water.
The owners agreed to surrender the dogs, stating they could no longer care for them, and the dogs were taken to spend time at a shelter.
On Tuesday, Rainbow Brite and her puppies found a foster home.
In some places, it is illegal to tether your dog, but if it is legal, there are safe ways to do it, according to the Arizona Humane Society.
- Make sure the dog’s tether is long and there are no obstacles that could get them tangled
- Secure their water bowl and opt for plastic bowls, because metal can get too hot
- Don’t leave dogs unsupervised for long periods of time
- In extreme heat, bring pets indoors
