On January 24, Lawrence County Central Dispatch received a report of a child being bitten by a dog while under the care of Delaney Miller at the Millers’ residence. The child’s mother informed authorities that her son was taken to the hospital for treatment following the attack.
Deputy Davis Miller initially responded to the scene and documented the incident. A follow-up investigation was conducted by Officer Chad Hillenburg, who visited the Millers’ residence on January 27. During the visit, Brandon Miller stated that the dog, a tan-colored male boxer mix named Tip, may have been vaccinated but was unable to provide proof of current rabies vaccination. Further investigation at Bedford Veterinary confirmed that none of the Millers’ dogs had received rabies vaccinations.
Officer Hillenburg’s report indicates that Delaney Miller initially withheld details due to alleged pressure from Brandon Miller to lie to law enforcement. However, Delaney later disclosed that the dog had previously bitten other individuals, including her child and a friend, who was reportedly bitten on January 14. Additionally, Delaney reported that Brandon Miller attempted to mislead officers by stating the child provoked the attack.
Further discussions with the child’s parent revealed that she was bitten unexpectedly by the same dog while exiting a bathroom at the Millers’ residence. Photographic evidence of the bite was provided to investigators.
Based on the findings of the investigation, the Lawrence County Police Department has charged Brandon Miller with obstruction of justice, a Level 6 felony, false informing, a Class B misdemeanor, and harboring a non-immunized dog that causes bodily injury, a Class B misdemeanor.
Megan Miller has been charged with harboring a non-immunized dog that causes bodily injury, a Class B misdemeanor.
The information was forwarded to the Lawrence County Prosecutor’s Office and warrants were issued for the Millers. They were arrested on Wednesday, February 5.
Lawrence County residents are reminded of the importance of keeping pets vaccinated to prevent such incidents.
Those facing criminal charges are considered innocent unless convicted through due legal proceedings. Accusations alone do not imply guilt; the judicial system will evaluate the presented evidence to reach a verdict.
