LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) – FOX5 has been reporting on overcrowding issues at The Animal Foundation.
But one thing the nonprofit doesn’t have enough of is volunteers, which is why there’s an urgent push to get more people in the doors to take the dogs outside.
One of the downsides of not having enough volunteers is that many dogs end up sitting in their crates missing out on important social interaction that could help them find their new forever homes.
Volunteers say regular walks can also help relieve kennel stress.
FOX5 just learned The Animal Foundation has hundreds of adoptable dogs at any given time, but doesn’t even have a fraction of the number of volunteers needed to get every dog walked regularly, much less daily.
Volunteers also say it’s not the shelter’s fault, it simply has too many dogs.
They add too many people are surrendering their dogs, not enough people claim their strays, and there aren’t enough owners spaying or neutering their pets, which leads to an overpopulation of homeless dogs.
