Las Vegas Desert Dogs team up with Cure 4 The Kids to honor young captains at home games

In a heartfelt initiative, the Las Vegas Desert Dogs are enlisting patients from the Cure 4 The Kids Foundation (C4K) as honorary team captains for all home games, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with the team and momentarily escape their medical challenges.

Nine patients from C4K, Southern Nevada’s sole pediatric cancer and rare disease treatment center, will be given two-day “contracts” as honorary captains.

These young captains will be recognized at home games, participate in pre-game news conferences, and receive official Las Vegas Desert Dogs jerseys.

They will also enjoy one-on-one interactions with players on the field and in the locker room, and lead the team onto the field during introductions.

This initiative is part of the Las Vegas Desert Dogs’ “Power of the Pack” program, in collaboration with Las Vegas Honda Dealers, aimed at bolstering community support.

Pediatric cancer is a cause close to the heart of Desert Dogs’ General Manager and Head Coach Shawn Williams, who lost his son, Tucker, to cancer in 2014.

The game on Saturday, February 1, will be dedicated as Tucker Out Lymphoma Night, with proceeds supporting pediatric oncology causes.

Fans will receive rally towels and can bid on player-worn jerseys in Tucker’s favorite lime green and white colors.

Teams connected to Williams, including the Buffalo Bandits and the Albany FireWolves, will also participate in the Tucker Out Lymphoma Cup.

“The ability to have special access as a team captain combined with the incredible high-energy nature of lacrosse games creates a memory I don’t think our patients will ever forget,” said Annette Logan-Parker, Founder and Innovation and Advocacy Officer of Cure 4 The Kids Foundation. “I want to thank the Las Vegas Desert Dogs for creating something truly special for our kids.”

Cure 4 The Kids Foundation treats nearly 7,000 patients annually.

The public is encouraged to sponsor a family to help more C4K families attend the Tucker Out Lymphoma game, with sponsorships starting at $51 and can be accessed here.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
