The Run With the Dogs 5K and 1 Mile Pup Trot is back in Decatur. This is the 21st edition of the annual race and it is exciting as ever. As a community event, this is a can’t-miss event for everyone who is around, especially dog owners and lovers. The event is scheduled for January 25 and the registrations are now open.
Have Fun With the Doggies at the Run With the Dogs Event
The Run With the Dogs 5K and Pup Trot will be a great chance to let the dogs and themselves have some fun. The event has been recognized as a top dog-friendly run/walk in the US in the past. It was also honored as one of the best races in Georgia.
The race will be at Beacon Hill Middle School this year, which will be the starting point. The race course will go through the Decatur neighborhoods of MAK (McDonough-Adams-Kings Highway) and Oakhurst.
The Run With the Dogs is an official Atlanta Journal-Constitution Peachtree Road Race qualifier event. Moreover, the timings for the event will be managed by Start2Finish race management.
Race Timings
The 1-mile pup trot will commence at 8:30 AM on the race day. The 5K race will commence at 9 AM.
Ticket Prices
Those who are getting tickets for the 5K race between January 17 and 24 will have to pay $50 per person. On the race day, the ticket prices at the venue will be $55. For the pup trot, the ticket prices are $25.
Discounts are available for students (18 and under) and teachers, employees of City Schools of Decatur, and City of Decatur employees. They will only have to pay $45 till January 24 and $50 on the race day. For pup trot, the discounted price is $20.
The ticket sales started in November 2024, and the starting prices were $30, which later increased to $40 for ordinary members. The famous long-sleeved t-shirts featuring original artwork by Adam Pinsley will be given to participants who registered before January 11.
Fun For All Age Groups
The age categories for the race are 11 & under, 12-14, 15-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, 60-69 and 70 and over.
As for the awards, overall 1st place, masters first place, and top finishers will be given to male, female, and nonbinary runners in each age group category. Awards sponsored by Fleet Feet Decatur will be distributed after the 5K race.
Face of the Race 2025
Charlie, the absolutely cute and charismatic Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, was selected as this 2025 “Face of the Race” for the Run With the Dogs 5K. He will now be appearing in the event shirts and posters and on race day. He was selected out of 31 participants by 1,280 voters from the public.
Fundraising for Schools of Decatur
Decatur Bulldogs Boosters conducts its biggest annual fundraiser event, Run With the Dogs, to support the sports programs at Decatur High School and Beacon Hill Middle School. Proceeds from the event help the schools secure uniforms, equipment, etc for the student-athletes. About 1,100 student-athletes that are on the 57 teams representing 19 sports from both schools benefit from this event.
