Kids practice reading skills with dogs at Marquette library

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) – Kids got some help with their reading skills from furry friends Monday in Marquette.

The Peter White Public Library held the first night of its Superiorland Pet Partners.

Specially trained reading therapy dogs were available in the Youth Services Guest Room downstairs at the library.

The program lets kids practice their reading skills with the animals.

Youth Services Librarian Sarah Rehborg says dogs make a great judgement-free audience.

“Dogs don’t care if you stumble over words,” Rehborg said. “Dogs don’t care if you don’t know how to read books and you’re just sitting there telling them stories from the pictures. It’s a great way for kids to practice their reading skills.”

If you missed reading with the dogs this time, Peter White Public Library will be hosting a Pet Partners every Monday until April 14. Each one runs from 4 to 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Services Guest Room at Peter White Public Library.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
