Kennel in Ocean Isle Beach fined after three dogs die

OCEAN ISLE BEACH, N.C. (WECT) – The N.C. Department of Agriculture fined the Diamond-A-Kennels in Ocean Isle Beach over $5,000 after three dogs died at the facility.

NC Animal Welfare got a complaint on Aug. 22 that a dog named Halo died while staying at the kennel. Kennel Owner Debby Somerset says she doesn’t know what happened to the dog. The next day, the state conducted a compliance investigation and found nearly 20 violations of state law. Some of those violations had also been cited during a January inspection.

The department’s notice of warning that was posted on Monday, Sept. 9, said that the kennel didn’t report the death of a dog back in May within 48 hours as required.

Safety, health, and sanitary violations were also reported during the inspection. They found that 16 animals weren’t given continuous access to water and that large amounts of fecal matter and waste were in the middle of the front kennel room.

Somerset called the violations “little things” and that after 27 years of owning Diamonds, she wouldn’t neglect an animal and that the violations had nothing to do with the dog’s death in August.

She says she is now working to comply again, and that she is working with the state on the investigation and will pay the fine.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
