JSO officer arrested, accused of stealing handbag of woman he arrested

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office arrested an officer accused of stealing a woman’s handbag and discarding it behind a Mandarin apartment complex.

JSO said on March 20, a woman whom Officer Shane Metz arrested in December 2024 reported that she didn’t get her handbag back when she was released.

Detectives discovered that Metz didn’t submit the woman’s handbag as personal property when she was booked into the jail. He searched the woman’s bag and discarded it in a Mandarin apartment complex dumpster.

On March 27, Metz was arrested for petty theft, a 1st-degree misdemeanor, and he immediately resigned.

Metz was employed with the agency for two years and seven months.

This is the fourth arrest of a JSO employee in 2025.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
