Joplin Health Department shares water safety tips for pets

JOPLIN, Mo. (KOAM) — The Joplin Health Department is reminding pet owners about water safety when it comes to our four-legged friends.

The City of Joplin Health Department Facebook page is sharing some tips:

    • Not all dogs are good swimmers
      • Don’t assume they already know how to swim, they have to learn too!
    • Preserve a life
      • Life vests safe lives! When boating, life vests make your pet visible, and also give you something to grab, should they jump or fall into the water.
    • Curiosity can kill
      • Pets can fall into pools. Teach your pet how to get in and out of pools by themselves. Fences or safety nets can help.

Don’t force them into the water

    • Never force a pet into water. It won’t be an enjoyable experience for you or your pet.

During an emergency with a pet, owners can call the Joplin Health Department or the Joplin Police Department’s non-emergency number at 417-623-3131.

The Favicon for the website, dogsandpurses(dot)com, features an all-black background with a minimalist line drawing of a puppy's head poking out of a stylish purse. The puppy's head is drawn with a cute and friendly expression, making it the focal point of the design. The purse, which the puppy is emerging from, is depicted with clean, elegant lines. The contrast between the black background and the white line drawing creates a striking and modern look for the Favicon.
