Jonesboro, AR – (JonesboroRightNow.com) – Oct. 18, 2024 – The Lazy Dog Grill has become a lunchtime fixture in downtown Jonesboro.
Every weekday from 11:00 to 2:30, John Wilson fires up the chargrill and serves Angus burgers and hot dogs from the food trailer parked at the corner of Church Street and Monroe Avenue.
Wilson is a one-man show who spent about a year in management at a local full-service restaurant before his wife, Penny, gave him an idea about going out on his own. Penny is a teacher in Brookland and got the idea for a hot dog trailer from YouTube.
Wilson, who’s in his 50’s, sold some property and with the extra money, he invested in the start of Lazy Dog. “About every 10 years, I’m ready for a new career,” he said. “This will probably be my last career.”
Wilson said he’s not been affected by the closure at Main Street and Washington Avenue. If anything, he says, business has been even better since he started in September.
His customers are usually from close by. He regularly grills burgers and dogs for people who work at St Bernards, Jonesboro City Water and Light, and construction crews. He said he gets a lot of customers by just waving at people as they drive by.
Right now, the menu is mostly cooked on the chargrill, but he’s recently added smores and hot chocolate, and he’s toying with the idea of trying out some breakfast items.
The Lazy Dog Grill accepts cash, debit and credit cards, Venmo and Cash App. Find the Lazy Dog Grill on Facebook here.
