Ashtabula County Dog Warden Ben Berry confirmed to 3News that his office is investigating where the dogs may have come from.
CLEVELAND — An investigation is underway in Ashtabula County after more than a dozen dogs were found dumped on a property in Geneva.
One of a Kind Pet Rescue, a nonprofit clinic based in Akron, have documented their efforts on social media as the organization has taken in 12 of the poodle mixes, or “doodles.”
“This is obviously the work of an unethical breeder,” the organization wrote in one post. “These poor souls are filthy, matted, and scared, but otherwise diamonds in the rough.”
One of a Kind’s executive director, Tanya Jonda, told 3News the dogs were found emaciated, with many suffering from health issues.
“Horrific condition,” Jonda said. “Some of them had been fighting, causing wounds. And some of them look like they have not been eating well. We don’t know if it’s a medical concern or if they just weren’t eating well. We don’t know how much food has been provided to them, but they’re definitely gonna need some TLC and some medical intervention.”

Groomers from across Northeast Ohio have donated their time to help clean the dogs up. One of a Kind says foster families have already begun to step forward. The organization is taking donations to help defray the cost of the dogs’ medical care and has a special fundraising event planned for Saturday night.
