BRANFORD, CT —Here’s another in a history of social media posts from the Dan Cosgrove Animal Shelter sharing the news that yet again, a pet has been found dumped on a Branford street.
This time, it’s actually two dogs, both on the same street and on a day of extreme heat and humidity. And one, shelter staff estimate to be around 15 years old, was “exhausted and falling over or walking sideways in the middle of the road.”
Both dogs are receiving medical care, shelter staff noted.
DCAS director Laura Burban, who is beyond fed-up with the cruelty and neglect she sees regularly, has launched an investigation.
“This is an open investigation at this time, and we are researching all leads,” she wrote on Facebook. “We take crimes against animals very seriously, and we appreciate any information the public can provide.”
According to Burban, the first dog, which was having great difficulty walking, was found Tuesday on Hosley Avenue around 3 p.m. by a passerby. The person told shelter staff that the elderly dog appeared to be in crisis.
The second dog was found around 10 p.m. Tuesday, again by a passerby, and again, on Hosley Avenue.
“We have reason to believe that a resident abandoned these animals between the hours of noon and 3 p.m. during the height of the extreme heat and humidity yesterday,” DCAS wrote on Facebook.
“We want to thank those that stopped and saved these animals lives,” the Facebook post reads. “Helping all of these abused and abandoned animals is a team effort and we truly appreciate your diligence and support.”
