THEY FOUND SEVEN DOGS IN THE BACKYARD WITH OPEN WOUNDS, SORES AND MATTED AND DIRTY FUR. POLICE SAY THEY ALSO FOUND A DEAD DOG IN THE BACKYARD, AND THEY FOUND ANOTHER THREE DOGS IN MAKESHIFT CRATES IN THE GARAGE. TWO OF THEM WERE SEVERELY INJURED. Dead dog, others found living with open wounds in Lancaster County backyard
Officers found a dead dog and others with open wounds, living in filth, in Lancaster Township Thursday afternoon, according to police. Around 2:45 p.m., officers responded to a call for excessive barking and dogs attacking each other at a home along the 1000 block of Sterling Place. “Officers discovered dogs in the backyard living in unsanitary conditions, with open wounds, sores and matted fur. In the garage, additional dogs were found in makeshift crates with apparent injuries,” police said in a statement. Lancaster Township police along with the Pennsylvania SPCA Police obtained a search warrant for the home. Investigators said they found three dogs in the garage. Two were severely injured and were rushed to the Pet Emergency Treatment and Specialties Hospital (P.E.T.S.) in Lancaster for emergency care. Seven dogs were seized from the backyard by the PA SPCA Police. The dogs were living in feces and urine, were dirty, injured, and/or in poor physical condition, police said. These dogs were transported to a treatment facility for evaluation and care.One deceased dog was found in the backyard.Police said the Pennsylvania State Dog Warden assisted investigators. The investigation is ongoing and a necropsy will be performed on the deceased dog.
