Buzz the golden retriever demonstrates his own version of the downward dog yoga position with an amazing full-body extension that is raising howls of laughter online.
In a hilarious video posted on TikTok by (@goldenhrbuzz), the ultra-supple golden retriever demonstrates his spectacular “Sunday morning stretch.”
His owner, from Wisconsin, captures Buzz’s impressive technique as he first extends his front legs, before sliding his entire body backward, until he is lying flat against the wooden floor.
Buzz even looks up at the camera when he has completed his move as if to say “did you get that?”
Since the clip was posted on July 21, it has delighted social media users who can’t get enough of Buzz’s striking pose. The video has already gained over 5.1 million views and more than 1.3 million likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
Just like humans, it’s perfectly normal for dogs to stretch their bodies after a good sleep or lying down in the same position for some time. Hill’s Pet Nutrition explains that it helps to loosen up their muscles and prepares them to start moving once again.
Most of the time it’s simply a reflex action, in a similar way to yawning when we’re tired. However, when a dog starts stretching far more frequently, it could be down to a number of other reasons.
As suggested by Hill’s Pet Nutrition, it could be a sign of boredom and lack of stimulation that’s causing them to stretch frequently and seek attention instead. Alternatively, stretching constantly can be a sign of a pulled muscle or joint pain, so owners should look out to see if a dog has stiffness in any area, or lameness when they start moving as it could be arthritis or joint pain.
Sometimes, dogs will stretch their front paws out and leave their rump in the air as it signals a play bow, which is their way of initiating playtime. They usually do this with other dogs, but if they start doing it when there’s no other dogs around, it could be a symptom of abdominal pain instead. Hill’s Pet Nutrition highlights that they’ll stay in that position for longer than usual, and they may cry out while doing so if there’s any pain.
What’s important for owners to look out for is a change of habits and behavior. If they stretch every time they stand up, it likely isn’t an issue and they’re just waking up. But if they start to stretch a lot more than normal, it’s best to consult with a vet for a second opinion.
Since the video of Buzz doing his quirky stretch was shared on TikTok, it has left social media users in hysterics. Internet users have been full of praise for the sheer athleticism he displayed with his morning routine, leading to more than 4,100 comments on TikTok so far.

While another person added: “That was a professional sploot.”
