Whether you’re a passionate animal rescue advocate or simply a good samaritan who loves dogs and cats, it’s easy to feel the pull of desire to help shelter animals. However, not everyone has the time, space, or resources to volunteer, foster, or adopt a pet. Some folks donate money or much-needed pet supplies, but two young men in Illinois are using the power of social media to change shelter dogs’ lives.
Eric and Joey, AKA ‘The Dog Guys,’ have dedicated themselves to giving shelter dogs a new ‘leash’ on life with special gifts like field trips out of the shelter. Their newest campaign includes giving these dogs the ultimate spa days, all thanks to their local sponsors and fans who have donated online. On January 8, three sweet pups from Border Tails Rescue in Northbrook, IL, were pampered and polished from nose to tail. All that’s left is to help them find their forever homes!

OMG—Gloria, the soft-coated Wheaten Terrier, looks like a whole new dog! It’s bittersweet to hear that she had to be bathed twice, but the dog groomer deserves a major pat on the back for going above and beyond for her and her friends. Clearly, he knows just how important it is for a dog to be clean and tangle-free! Not only can it keep them healthy and comfortable, but it can majorly improve their mental health, too.

It’s just as heartwarming to see how many video viewers are rallying in support of the shelter dogs and the generous young men who helped them. A comment from ‘The Wee Ones,’ a group of senior rescue dogs, read, “Thank you so much for helping these dogs like this. I’m sure it will do a lot to increase their chances of getting adopted.” You can say that again!
How to Help Shelter Dogs
A clean and well-groomed dog is more likely to capture the attention of a potential adopter, but this isn’t the only way to make a shelter dog’s day. Anyone who’s volunteered at a shelter or humane society knows that even short interactions or small treats can turn a pup’s day around! Some folks have even arranged with their local shelter to hand out dog treats on holidays (or just because!) just to see the adorable wagging tails.

If you have time to give to rescue dogs in your area, please consider volunteering at an animal shelter. You might clean kennels, walk dogs, or help update shelter websites, but every task helps keep the rescue running. This way, even more pets can find their forever homes, just like Gloria, Freddie, and Billie Jean will!
